In search of the next wave of great sneaker designers, PENSOLE Footwear Design Academy has teamed up with Foot Locker to launch the 2016 World Sneaker Championships.
The competition, which is open to designer from around the world, will culminate in a week-long World Sneaker Championship Experience (WSCX) live exhibition for the sneaker community in New York City. There, a winning design will be announced and sold at Foot Locker stores globally.
“The World Sneaker Championship is one of PENSOLE’s most popular competitions,” PENSOLE founder D’Wayne Edwards said. “This year we’re expanding it both in length and in reach, with multiple points of interactivity between designers and industry influencers.”
Held in a structured tournament format, the 2016 WSC begins with registrations and submissions from Feb. 5 to Mar. 6. The field will be narrowed down to the 64 best designs on Mar. 13 through the official contest website. Weekly, single-elimination voting will take place until Apr. 17, which the final two designers are chosen. The final renderings will be unveiled on May 9, with voting ending on May 15.
The winning design will be developed will take place from May through Nov., with the announcement scheduled for New York’s WSCX at a location to be announced. The 2016 World Sneaker Champion will also receive $20,016.
