Berlin-born Moe Wagner has been a key factor in the Michigan Wolverines' March Madness run thus far, and there may be a surprising secret behind his game: a pair of old Air Jordan 11 retros.
In an interview with Chicago Tribune, Wagner admits his “Space Jam” 11s are on their last legs, but he continues to wear them because they have room to accommodate his right ankle brace. “I’ll be so happy when the season is over, so I can throw them away,” Wagner said, “Or I’ll keep them as a memory. They won’t make it long.”
Wagner's apparently become so notorious for wearing the heavily broken-in pair that his teammates have started ridiculing him. “They’re giving me a lot of — I‘m not going to say the s-word — a lot of stuff for wearing these retros,” he said. Judging by the condition of the pair in recent images, it appears Wagner's go-to is the 2016 “Space Jam” reissue.
In related news, an Air Jordan 12 retro resembling the Wolverines' navy blue PE is expected to release April 28.
