New Balance Celebrates Heritage of the 990 With a Limited Release

In celebration of one its most popular models, New Balance is dropping an exclusive run of the “1982” MADE 990v4.

Limited to only 1,500 total pairs, this special version of the 990 pays homage to the original grey colorway that released back in 1982 when it was the first $100 athletic sneaker. It's constructed of the same pigskin suede and mesh upper as the original with navy blue branding hits used on the brand's signature “N” logo, tongue tag, heel, and lateral heel embroidery as well.

Although originally created as a performance runner, over the past three decades the 990 has become a cult favorite as a casual sneaker as well. Even more recently, it has been adopted by a new generation thanks to the current “dad shoe” trend.

The New Balance MADE 990v4 “1982,” which will retail at its original price point of $100, releases at select pop-up locations worldwide on April 14.

The seven participating retailers in the U.S. are as follows:

New York City – New Balance, 150 5th Ave
Atlanta – Foot Locker, Greenbriar Pkwy SW
Palo Alto, California – Shoe Palace, 451 University Ave
Philadelphia – Kicks USA, Roosevelt Mall, 2339 Cottman Ave
San Francisco – New Balance, 856 Market S
